Feast of St. Sergius of Radonezh - 2006

The Feast of the Patron of the Cathedral, St. Sergius of Radonezh, was
celebrated on October 7-8, 2006. The Cathedral was blessed to have the
Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God present for all the celebrations.
The services were officiated by His Eminence, Metropolitan Laurus,
joined by Archbishop Mitrophan of Eastern America (Serbian) and Bishop
Peter of Cleveland. The Bishops were joined by Archimandrite George
(Shaeffer), Archpriest Peter Burlakov, Archpriest Lazar Kostur,
Archpriest Eugene Gruchetski, Archpriest John Sykaluk, and Priest Ilia
Marzev, Dean of the Cathedral. At the Lesser Entrance, Archpriest Peter
Burlakov, longtime clegyman and retired Dean of the Cathedral received
the award of the Mitre for his years of service to the Church. The
clergy were joined by 8 deacons, most notably, Protodeacon John Onopko,
on of the founding members of the St. Sergius Parish in the early
1950's. There were over 300 faithful in attendance, and the Cathedral
Sisterhood prepared a festal banquet following the services. The
Cathedral Choir sang prayerfully and festivly under the direction of
Reader Alexander Petrovsky. It should be noted that the Choir maintains
a high level of chanting through regular rehearsals, and the Choir's
dedication and hard work was evident in the beauty of the services of
the Feast. The Metropolitan thanked the choir numerous times for their
'prayerful chanting'. The Feast of St. Sergius was filled with the
spirit of a 'Second Pascha', enlighting all with the joy of the Feast.
O venerable Father Sergius, pray to God for us! O most Holy Theotokos,
save us!
