The weekend of July 15-16 began with Akathist with a lecture and discussion afterwards on Friday evening. Archpriest Philip Petrovsky of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ, delivered a talk on relations of Church and state. Fr. Philip spoke about the views of the founding fathers of America regarding religion and how modern interpretations have distorted their intentions. He also spoke about contemporary issues in society which threaten the life of the Orthodox Church.
On Sunday the St. Sergius Cathedral Sisterhood held the annual Sisterhood Picnic. This year's theme was 'Hawaiian Luau". The picnic was a great success under the leadership of head sister Alla Chistik.
